It should. Mine is letting me play. On Friday morning I go to EBGames and pick up my copy and I'm all set.

For what it's worth, the employees at Babbages here seem to know more about these online RPG's than the console kiddies at EBGames.

I don't care what anybody says......this is all just a plot from ANet to get the thousands of people that already pre-paid in full for a collector's edition to spend another $50 to ANet's pocket for a regular version on Factions until thier CE comes out........2 month delay...seriously. I think they could produce more a hell of alot faster than that.........hhhmmm How do I report to ANet that ANet has scammed me?

I was the 1st person to pre order the collectors edition. which is delayed by 1 week. i read that EB received pre order keys to cover this but not enough. They game them out to who ever and i missed out. when i said they should have been given out in order of who had pre ordered they said well theres nothing we can do. I told there is ring every store until i get a key. they got me 1. the morons, last game i ever buy from EB Games.

Default I must have better luck

For me when I preordered I made sure they had the preorder kit in and it was in my hand before forking over my cash, and if they had none in I simply would have walked off. Of course I had to order the CE and they wont have any for a week+ (delay) so luckily they had already reserved me and everyone else with the CE preordered a regular copy instead, very thoughtful of them, just picked it up. Just makes me wonder how long they knew about the shortage, having just called me yesterday to tell me the bad news.

ok I don't work for EB, living in the UK, but I do work for GAME, a large game company over here. I'm gonna make it clear right now that there are differences (our preorder service is free, or £1.99 if there is a box like with GW) whereas it seems Americans have to basically pay for it up front. I'd also like to state that you indeed are in the right and EB handled this badly.

However, for future reference, from the point of view of a store assistant who has a lot of games to remember and preorder:
1. Whilst the company will try to supply all preorders, if we're not sent the stock its not out fault
2. When preordering a specific package, make sure you state "I want to preorder the guild wars preorder box", not just "can i preorder guild wars". The guys at my store who don't play GW had no clue we had a preorder box; luckily they passed everyone to me who wanted to preorder.
3. If you don't have to, don't pay anything/all the price. E.g. with us at GAME, even on the rare occasions you have to pay the £1.99, at least that way if you get annoyed with us you only lost £2 instead of £30
4. They were right not to give you the cd key yesterday. The preorder key is used for the head start for a good reason. Whilst some companys will break release date to send it out early, they shouldn't (over here if we were to do that then the game developers could potentially fine the company for ~£10,000 and whoever sold it can be jailed for 6 months). They pay a lot for specific release dates.
5. Finally, don't forget, games companys can be useless with information. No one at GAME knew about the CE shortage, not even head office (they are usually good at emailing us as soon as they know).

Not living in America I don't know what rights you have, but I know if you were over here I'd tell you to keep going in with your receipt and demanding your money back due to severe inconvenience and go elsewhere. Good luck.

I got borked out of the early event also by EBGames. The entire reason I pre-ordered in the first place.

First and last time I ever buy anything from EBGames.

I went to the local EB games the day after the pre orders were announced and they gave me a copy for free. I then decided to put down some money for the actual game. They called me at 9:00 this morning to say that they have received it and are waiting for me to pick up. Maybe I just got lucky?

You didn't get lucky, the regular edition is there today, the Collector's Edition is what is delayed. I got my preorder CD in the store when I preordered a long time ago, so was able to play yesterday. But since the actual CD with the retail key won't be there until next friday, we were not going to be able to play those characters after today. But now Anet has extended event 3 more days. So now Tuesday - Friday until we get the CD key and enter it we won't be able to play those characters, not as bad.

I almost always do the preorder from frys electronics. They always get the game in as early as anyone else and it's always a couple of bucks less.
They got Factions in late Wednesday Night and I got my copy Thurs afternoon with a free retail boxed copy of City of Villians.

Default a diffrent EBgames issue...

Here is the situation i ran into at my local EBgames.
I went to EB to get my factions pre-order over a month and a half ago.
The clerk informed me that they had not recieved the pre-order kits in yet but would call me when they did. OK.. fine.. gave him all the contact info he needed, paid in full for the game and left. Well... they never called.. AT ALL!
I called the store and they told me if i didnt get it when i paid for it i was out of luck.. hmmmmmmmmmm soooooooo extremely irrate and pissed off
I ended up having to call the 1-800 support number to obtain a key and that took a lot of fighting over the phone to accomplish that, with only 1 problem, i never got the pre-order key until AFTER the pre-view weekend.. go figure right. Anyway back to my train of thought, I had an issue with EBgames back when Unreal Tournament 2004 came out.. i paid in full to reserve my copy, day of release came, i went in with my reciept to pick it up.. OOPS sorry we must have given away your copy. WHAT?.. ok.. fine.. maybe they didnt recieve enough copies for all reservations. WELL... let me tell you what.. I went and stood at the door until they unlocked it the day factions came out with a whole line of people also waiting. As i stood behind a young man in line he told the clerk he wanted to buy factions, the clerk told him im sorry we only recieved enough games in for the pre-order pre-paid customers. The manager was standing next to the clerk and informed him" sell him one, matter of fact sell them all, first come first serve if they cant get in to pick up thier game that they were in such a hurry to pay for thats there problem". REALLY!!! so we pre-pay $50.00 to recieve a game on the release date and it doesnt matter? We are out of luck if your out of copies when we do get in there? well guess what I am not pre-ordering or reserving anything from EBgames again, I guess they pulled the wool over my eyes with the whole UT2004 deal but they sure wont be doing it again!..I will be that person standing in line when they open with the cash in my hand buying someone elses pre-paid game at least that way i know i'll get one!
